Ok...so I take off to come home to Indiana over 2 hours later than planned. Left approx. 10am. Which turned out to be serendipity because my tail light went out AGAIN!! So, I stopped into the dealership to get it fixed. Was there over 2 1/2 hours, then on the road for the road trip from hell. Everything was going along quite peachy. Roads were a little congested, but not too bad. Get about to Murfreesboro (just east of Nashville) when I start to see the rolling black clouds ahead. I am totally psyched. First thunderstorm I get to see this year and it is just gorgeous. Lightning flashing across the sky... It would flash from two different sections of clouds then collide and thrash down to the ground. Totally awesome view. Except the rain came in shortly thereafter and was a complete monsoon. It was blowing laterally to the ground. The wind was so harsh. So, I pulled off at a rest stop to get gas, poddy and take a break. Knowing full well I couldn't drive thru that. The wind was so harsh in fact that it had blown the heavy trash can/window washing units thru the glass windows of the gas station. I was waiting for cows to fly over my head. I stayed put for about 25 minutes, took a mini nap and headed back out. Only to get caught in 1+ hours of traffic from an accident caused by said storm. A semi-trailer had drove completely over a passenger car and killed all those in it. So, I was stuck. Storm came and went once I got onto 65 North and was that way the entire trip until I got to the Indiana state line. Thanks the Gods that [livejournal.com profile] faekitty called me and kept me awake talking from that point forward. I finally made it home about 11:30pm.
Now onto this morning... Woke up early...not had nearly enough sleep. 'Rents have no mt. dew in the house. Family is on the way over...and it is snowing like hell. Temp was about 28 degrees with a sharp wind coming out of the east. WTF!!?? What happened to my beautiful Atl. temp that was about 74 when I left?
Get to the funeral home early and there is already a line out the door for calling. Sub total of those in attendance (according to last count about an hour before it was over) was 487 people. Terry was a very well friended individual, with a super large family. So, little ole ochlophobic me is stuck again...in this room full of people who haven't seen me since I moved to Atl. 8+ years ago, all wanting hugs and attention. Good to see some, not so pleasant to see others.
We just finished dinner and I am so drained. I hope that I am able to get some sleep tonight so I am not such a grouch tomorrow.
Mom is feeling horrible. Her body is so stiff and achy. She is having even a hard time holding a cigarette or her coffee cup because the arthritis has gotten so bad.
Dad is being an incorrigible asshole. Being super mean to Mom and trying (key word being trying) to pick fights with me.
That so far has been my last two days. I am sure more is to come.

I found you, when i hit random. ANd then i read your entry. Those storms sound crazy, have yu ever been in a tornado? That shit is insane. Im from Aussie, we dont have tornadoes here.. but jus from seein movies i pretty much have a phobia of them. Over there, is it like, reality is that maybe one day your driving along your car might get picked up in a tornado? or your houses roof? Or maybe i've seen to many movies.

Growing up in the midwest proved to be interesting. Tornados are pretty common. Never seen one do those things, but have seen the aftermath and know it is possible. I love watching storms come in and usually, as long as I am not in danger, the harsher they are the more fun for me.

Remind me sometime (when I am really really drunk) to tell you about my Dad's family. It is definitely worth a laugh (or a cry), but only good conversation when all parties are totally smashed.
